Dear EBA Members:

We begin the 2008-2009 board term with a number of familiar faces returning to our Executive Board and a renewed commitment to improving the relationship between our membership and government, building membership, delivering valuable information through our meeting speakers, social events, and promoting the Elmwood Business Park as the premier address for business in Jefferson Parish.

To illustrate this point – we were contacted by a number of our members who have experienced repetitive flooding in Elmwood Business Park in particular along Edwards Ave., in areas where the road has been improved through the construction project to widen and raise the street surface. The EBA Board arranged a meeting on 7/28/08 which was well-attended by many representatives of Parish Government including President Broussard, Council Members Capella, Young, a representative of Councilman Lagasse’s staff, Tim Whitmer and other principal executive staff.

An informative presentation was conducted, and a question-and-answer session was held by Parish Engineering & Drainage Management Personnel and Rick Meyer, the Contract Engineer for other current drainage projects. While there were some tough questions, all were answered with genuine frankness and highlighted near term plans to resolve these issues. This program was informative and helpful to members who have experienced loss due to flooding and provided a valuable link between public and private sectors – we are deeply grateful to all those who attended.

Created in 1970, the Elmwood Business Association has become a vital component to the Jefferson Parish economy. In 1990, Elmwood Business Park was home to over 1,300 businesses and 28,307 jobs, and accounted for 10 percent of all jobs in Jefferson Parish. In 1998, the $19.2 million in sales taxes collected by businesses in the Elmwood Business District represented almost 40% of total sales tax collected in Jefferson Parish shopping zones. This growth has continued into 2008.

Boundaries of Business Park Include: The area between Hickory Ave. and St. George Ave., and the area between the Mississippi River and Airline Drive.
