From the President, 

We begin the new term for our Executive Board with a number of new faces. In my first official act as President of EBA, I would like to congratulate and thank all those who have volunteered their time to assist in leading and guiding our organization - your efforts are essential to the success and progress of our Association. I would also be remiss to not give special thanks to our able Treasurer Jimmy Baum who has served in various positions in our board over the last several years, and lastly I would like to thank my predecessor Janet McCormick who has been a capable and generous leader as President.

When I first returned to Elmwood just a few weeks after Hurricane Katrina, based on the amount of debris from metal buildings, fences, and trash, I couldn't have suspected that less than two years later our area would be leading the economic recovery in Jefferson Parish - but here we are today boldly moving forward in East Jefferson as some areas still struggle to decide what to do next and sadly have little to show for the last two years. I say this not to gloat or levy blame at the leadership in these areas, but to illustrate the strength of commitment that has been achieved through the hard work of our members and other businesses in the park. Though I am sure there are other areas that will soon begin to experience some of the same booming economic trends, I believe we can ensure the continuity of our area's success through recognizing these trends and capitalizing on this momentum.

The EBA and its Executive Board continues to support the park's tenants by promoting the area though our relationships with other parish and regional chamber associations, and by maintaining strong ties with Parish, State, and Local Government leaders as well as our U.S. Legislative Delegation. We display the best that our business park has to offer in food, networking, and expertise from our speakers. Our goal is to grow the membership base significantly by providing genuine value to our members - we are looking forward to an exciting year, I hope you will all join us as we work to support you.

Created in 1970, the Elmwood Business Association has become a vital component to the Jefferson Parish economy. In 1990, Elmwood Business Park was home to over 1,300 businesses and 28,307 jobs, and accounted for 10 percent of all jobs in Jefferson Parish. In 1998, the $19.2 million in sales taxes collected by businesses in the Elmwood Business District represented almost 40% of total sales tax collected in Jefferson Parish shopping zones. This growth has continued into 2007.

Boundaries of Business Park Include: The area between Hickory Ave. and St. George Ave., and the area between the Mississippi River and Airline Drive.
